English is one of the most widely spoken languages on earth with about 1.1 billion people who speak it fluently. However, English is only the third most popular native language. About 375 million people speak English as a first language. The rest picked it up later in life.

How many? It is reliably estimated that as many as eight-hundred million people learn English as a second language. That means the number of non-native speakers outnumbers native speakers by more than two to one. Many of these students are children.

From the websites you research, try to get a sense of the school's ethos and guiding principles: be sure to read things like mission statements and to take stock of the site design. If the page is covered in kids art prints, you may be licensed to conclude the school values the humanities; if it appears to prioritise maths and science, it may signal that these subjects are where its focus falls.
